Sandy Hook is unique among free beaches in New Jersey, as it holds one of the greatest historical significances to the state. Whether to keep allowing free beach access is a perpetual discussion in Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood, three bordering municipalities. They think the free beach is the draw. If you go, the Jersey Shore in summer is a treat — so try not to get too hung up over the beach badges.
